Alaska Part I, second part

Blogger thought I'd said quite enough for a single post, so this is a continuation of Alaska Part I.

Pop quiz: which way does the wind blow on this slope?

Wild jelly! This beautiful lion's mane jelly was one of many we saw in Resurrection Bay. This is the only photo (of many) that turned out reasonably well. It turns out that fancy cameras still have trouble understanding what you want when you're photographing a jelly through water.

Sea otter! This otter is decidedly blonder than the ones by our cottage, but we never figured out if that was real species change or just a variation within a population.

Stellar sea lions basking in the sun. I think they're bigger and more endangered than the California sea lions who live further south on the Pacific coast.

More sea lions. They're so cool.

And we saw a couple of bald eagles. This one sat still long enough for a bunch of photos. We also saw puffins and a huge variety of other sea birds.

We asked another passenger to take our picture at the end of the ride, and this is what she did the first time. Don't get me wrong -- Ian's cute and totally worthy of his own pictures, but really?

Her second effort was much better, though to be fair, Ian's bending down and I was on my tiptoes.

This is the Seward Highway between Anchorage and Seward. It was much clearer on our drive back, but imagine how beautiful it would be with no clouds. We'll just have to go back someday!

Looking up Canyon Creek on the way out of Seward. This is the kind of terrain that makes me glad of modern bridges!

And one last epic landscape, looking down Canyon Creek.
